Presented by Michael van den Bos with an integrated live performance by The Angela Verbrugge Quartet MAD | Vancity Theatre Event

Show Time for Victory!

The syncopated rhythms and poignant melodies generated by the entertainment industry during World War II helped rally patriotism and Allied actions in the global fight against fascist foes. To celebrate the musical achievements that inspired audiences during the war years, film scholar Michael van den Bos presents a rousing revue of clips from World War II-era Hollywood movies that boosted morale and offered much needed escapist fare to home front civilians and servicemen on the front lines.

Featured in this program are some of the brightest Hollywood stars of the 1940s who did their part for the war effort in spirited song and dance, including The Andrews Sisters, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Rita Hayworth, Gene Kelly, Glenn Miller, Carmen Miranda, and The Voice . . . Frank Sinatra.

Interwoven with the film clips is a live performance by vocalist Angela Verbrugge , singing period pop and jazz songs of love, loss, longing and hope that comforted and encouraged the Greatest Generation. Accompanying Angela are Josh Roberts on guitar, Anita Eccleston on trumpet, Louis Rudner on bass, and Nick James on drums.
